Pediatric Dental Care

Yakima’s Pediatric Dentistry

Pediatric dentistry is focused on the oral health of children from infancy to the teen years. A dentist needs to have the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums and mouth throughout all stages of childhood development. An infant begins to get baby teeth during their first six months. By age 6-7, children will start losing their baby teeth for their secondary, permanent teeth. It’s important that children receive the proper dental care needed to prevent possible oral decay and disease that can cause long-term pain and discomfort.

Pediatric Dental Care

Orchard Hills Dentistry provides comprehensive pediatric dental care for children of all ages. Specifically infants, children and adolescents. We understand all children have their own unique dental needs. Infants and toddlers still have baby teeth and are treated differently than those with permanent teeth. Our office is skilled and trained in techniques to help all children maintain healthy teeth and will help those children who are more hesitant or nervous about their dental visits. Our new office provides a great kids play area and we encourage all children to have a fun and comfortable time when visiting us.

Children cavity treatment

There are a few techniques to helping children be more comfortable in filling a cavity. We use numbing gels and laughing gas to help calm our anxious little patients. Once our little patients are numb then it’s time for the anesthetic shot, which is painless after the numbing. Then our dentist will begin to remove any tooth decay and fill the cavity with a tooth-colored filling composite. After the filling is secure the dentist will make sure your bite is good, and that’s it!

Best Practices for Pediatric Hygiene

  • Brush and floss daily
  • Brush teeth gently with a soft toothbrush
  • Brush over the front, back, and tops of each tooth
  • Use fluoride toothpaste
  • Floss daily, slide floss against the sides of each tooth and under the gums
  • Reduce the intake of sugary foods

What Your Child can Expect at Each Dental Visit

We love kids! Our trained staff knows how to communicate and make each child feel comfortable when they visit us. You can expect a great experience for your children when you come to our practice. Not all kids are the same and we understand that. Our friendly dentists will check for signs of tooth decay and make sure your child’s teeth are healthy. The sooner we can catch cavities and other dental troubles, the more effectively and painlessly those issues can be treated.
Our new building has an amazing kids play area. Make sure you come a few minutes early to allow your children a little time to play. We found this allows kids to be more comfortable for their exam.
